The federal government of Nigeria has suspended the salaries of 686 civil servants due to unverified records on the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS).

NEWSTODAYNG gathered that the move is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to streamline the payroll system and eliminate ghost workers.

The Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan, disclosed this and ordered the reopening of the verification portal for affected officers.

Out of the 11,447 civil servants whose salaries were initially suspended, only 10,761 participated in the physical verification exercise, leaving 686 officers who did not attend.

The verification process aims to ensure transparency, accuracy, and efficiency in the civil service payroll system. The government has been working to address discrepancies in the records of civil servants and enhance the credibility of the IPPIS platform.

The cleared officers, totaling 9,732, have received or will receive their salaries, while files of 1,029 officers with discrepancies are awaited from their respective Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) for further authentication.

This initiative aligns with the government’s commitment to financial accountability and responsible governance, demonstrating its resolve to combat corruption and ensure that public funds are utilized judiciously.
