The Federal Government of Nigeria will spend a total sum of Six Billion and Five hundred million on FIFA and CAF competitions which the country’s national teams will participate in 2025.

This sum is contained in the National Sports Commission (NSC) 2025 budget proposal.

Highlighting major competitions Nigeria will participate in 2025, the NSC listed, the African Women’s Nations Cup,the men’s African Nations Cup (both which the country have qualified for and be hosted by Morocco) as well as other FIFA and CAF qualification matches.

The statement reads, “Nigeria participation in 2025 African Nations Cup (AFCON) African Women’s Nations Cup (AWCON) and other FIFA tournaments for both men and women which Nigeria have qualified for in 2025 which cost N6,500,000,000 (Six billion and five hundred million naira). Super Eagles have qualified for the 2025 AFCON, also, Super Falcons qualified for the African Women’s Nations Cup both to hold in Morocco. The budget also covered other tournaments by the youth teams. Thus, participation is obligatory to Nigeria.”

The Tinubu led government has generously financed sports since he came in as President. Recently, he increased the budget for Sports in 2025 from less than N30 billion in 2024 to over N94 billion in 2025.

According to NFF’s activities for 2025, the Super Eagles will play six FIFA World Cup qualifying games and AFCON finals in December, the Super Falcons will participate in the 2025 African Women’s Nations Cup while the Flying Eagles will fight for the world cup ticket at the CAF U20 AFCON.

The U17 and U20 women’s national teams will play in the world cup qualifiers.
