Some men of the Nigerian Army have been ambushed and killed in a shootout on Thursday night as Boko Haram terrorists storm army checkpoint around Zuma Rock, the border between the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Niger State.

According to report, the terrorists arrived Zuma Rock, at about 8.30p.m, took the soldiers by surprise, and opened fire from different angles.

“They were shooting continuously at the checkpoint for almost an hour, and soldiers at the checkpoint were fighting back. But after a while, the shooting stopped,” a source said.

The bandits also attacked some villages and shops in Madalla, Niger State and fled with foodstuff on their motorbikes.

Following their retreat from Zuma rock to Niger State, more troops were deployed for reinforcement from the Army base in Zuma Barracks.

The attack comes barely six days after terrorists ambushed a patrol team of presidential guards along the Bwari-Kubwa Road resulting in the death of six soldiers and officers.
