Social media activist, Reno Omokri has admonish Nigerians to pursue records that can add tangible value to them and the country rather than mundane records that bring only fame and notoriety.
Reno posted on his X handle, urging Nigerians to break record that are helpful, sustainable and replicable.
In his words, “I am not sure the craze by Nigerians to make and break meaningless Guinness World Records is helpful to our country or the world. Rather than set or break the longest kissing, caressing, cooking, dancing, skipping, and other mundane records, let us try to break records that have lasting, meaningful, and uplifting, like the most downloaded app, most streamed single, best-selling album, largest manufacturing plant, youngest graduate, most conscientious employee, and most prolific teacher.
“Let us pursue records that actually add intrinsic value to us and our community, not just records that bring fame and notoriety but do not create tangible value that is sustainable and replicable. If you set or break the GWR record for the longest time skipping with one leg, I congratulate you. But how does that really improve you, your community, and Nigeria? It does not come with a prize. You can trend on social media and use the notoriety to become a celebrity, but to what end?”.
