Manchester City striker Erling Haaland crowned a phenomenal debut season in the Premier League by winning the FWA Player of the Year award. The striker was also, on the same day, named Premier League Player of the Month for April.
Since joining Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund last summer, Haaland has enjoyed phenomenal success in England. The 22-year-old striker has broken a raft of records, including the long-standing goalscoring record previously held by Alan Shearer.
Haaland’s success this season has been rewarded by the Football Writers Association, who have named him as their Player of the Year after he claimed a record 82% of the votes. The Manchester City star beat Arsenal duo of Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard to win the accolade, his first individual one in the Premier League.
After he was named as the FWA Player of the Year, Haaland also received the award for the Premier League’s Player of the Month for April. The Norwegian striker enjoyed a terrific month as he scored six goals and laid two assists in only four games for the Citizens. He won his first Player of the Month award since August, his first month as a Manchester City player.
Haaland beat teammate Kevin De Bruyne, Eberechi Eze, Alexander Isak, Ollie Watkins, Diogo Jota and Callum Wilson to win the award. The striker will be looking to lead Pep Guardiola’s side to a third straight Premier League title and end the season on a high. He will receive his FWA Player of the Year award in a ceremony on May 25th alongside Women’s Player of the Year award winner, Sam Kerr of Chelsea.
