Renowned Nigerian comedian, Helen Paul, has surprised fans by disclosing her pivotal contribution to Psquare’s 2005 hit song ‘Story.’
In a recent interview on the Honest Bunch Podcast, she revealed how she became the voice behind the iconic opening line, “Uncle, please tell us a story.”
Helen recounted her humble beginning as a receptionist when fate intervened. The original child voice actors failed to show up, and the studio’s decision to enlist Helen for her versatile voice proved serendipitous.
Initially unfamiliar with Psquare, she accepted the gig with a simple request for a “soft drink.”
Little did she know that this opportunity would be a stepping stone to success.
Helen Paul’s voice became sought after, leading to numerous job offers. She went from earning a modest N9,500 monthly as a receptionist to a substantial income of over N400,000 per month.
Reflecting on subsequent opportunities, Helen shared her involvement in another project for a milk product, where her knack for childlike voices once again secured her a role. The comedian acknowledged that, at the time, she didn’t comprehend the significance of putting her name on a song but embraced the unexpected turn of events.
Helen’s revelation sheds light on the often unsung heroes in the entertainment industry, proving that sometimes, the path to success is paved with unexpected twists and turns.
