Hope has risen as Manchester United asked Antony to resume training at Carrington pending investigations into the physical assault levelled against him by his ex-girlfriend, Gabriela Cavallin in early September.
The Premier League side issued a statement to this effect on Friday.
Statement released by the club read, “Since allegations were first made in June, Antony has cooperated with police inquiries in both Brazil and the UK, and he continues to do so.
“As Antony’s employer, Manchester United has decided that he will resume training at Carrington and be available for selection while police inquiries proceed. This will be kept under review pending further developments in the case.
“As a club, we condemn acts of violence and abuse. We recognise the importance of safeguarding all those involved in this situation and acknowledge the impact these allegations have on survivors of abuse.”
Antony last featured in a game for Manchester United on September 3, playing 84 minutes in a 3-1 defeat to Arsenal at Emirates Stadium.
Despite returning to training, the 23-year-old Brazil forward remains a huge doubt for Saturday’s home match against Crystal Palace.
Antony has also not featured for Brazil since September 4, when he was removed from their squad for 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification matches against Bolivia and Peru following allegations of domestic violence.
This was after Brazilian media outlet Universo Online reported the existence of photos showing the ex-girlfriend having injuries to her head and her hand as the Greater Manchester Police began to investigate the case.
Amidst two other women also stepping up to accuse Antony of assault, he went on to firmly deny the allegations on Brazilian network SBT on September 9, claiming that he will “provide the proof and people will understand”.
On September 10, Manchester United issued a statement acknowledging the allegations and announcing that an agreement with Antony is in place to grant him an extended leave of absence following the international break as he deals with the situation.
