A human rights activist, Dele Farotimi was released on Tuesday morning from the correctional service in Ekiti State after meeting his bail conditions.

NEWSTODAYNG recalled that a Magistrate’s Court in Ado-Ekiti granted N30 million bail to Farotimi, who had been remanded in prison since December 4, over alleged defamation against the founder and chancellor of Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD), Aare Afe Babalola.

Farotimi was arrested by the Police in his office in Lekki, Lagos State and taken to Ado Ekiti, following Babalola’s petition.

Babalola alleged in his petition that Farotimi defamed him in his book titled, ‘Nigeria and its Criminal Justice System’, where he alleged that the legal icon corrupted the Supreme Court to procure a fraudulent judgment in the service of his clients.

He was docked on 16-count-charge bothering on defamation, of which he pleaded not guilty to.
