…faults Buhari over Nigeria’s woes

A former governor of Ekiti state, Ayodele Fayose has lauded Gabon mutineers for ousting President Ali Bongo.

Fayose, a Peoples Democratic Party member, made this statement in an interview with Channels TV on Friday.

According to him, Nigeria is a stabilised country where there is uninterrupted democracy adding that nobody should entertain any fear of such in the country.

“I am very happy with what happened in Gabon. I don’t like military inclusion in politics. In a country where one man is spending 30, 40 years, they must boot him out of the place.

“Nigeria is different because Nigeria is stabilised in democracy. We may have our flaws. Now in Nigeria, you can see uninterrupted democratic process. Nobody should entertain any fear. It can’t work in our country.”

Recall that President Bongo’s government was toppled on Wednesday, shortly after he was declared winner of another election that would see him stay in office for the third term.

On the state of Nigeria’s economy, the former governor faulted the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari for its current predicament saying that the masses are to be blamed too for the woes that has bedevilled the country.

While tackling the Nigeria Labour Congress for its planned nationwide strike, Fayose said President Bola Tinubu took a bold move in the removal of fuel subsidy.

“When you are talking about the government, you must talk about the people. There can’t be a government without the people. When Buhari came, he had a tail wind, everybody said Buhari will turn things around.

“So, Buhari spent 8 years and messed up the country and we are talking about a man who has spend two or three months. Let us be realistic. When you want to blame government, you must blame the people. We need to sit back to a new beginning and new orientation.

“They are overdoing it. When Buhari was in government, how many times did they go on strike. They nearly compromised them. Maybe this government is not allowing them to be compromised, that’s why you have this issue. Where were they when the rot is happening in Nigeria.

“Asiwaju said it he would remove subsidy. Let us a call a spade a spade. A government is a function of the followership. The followership determines what their leaders will be.

“This man has taken the courage. It’s better to face the reality in our country. Asiwaju Tinubu saying subsidy regime is gone, that’s the reality. He has given his words that they will increase salaries. The country is very damaged. Let labour go on strike, they will come back.”
