The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has confirmed that three individuals arrested by soldiers during the recent governorship election in Kogi State are police officers.

The soldiers, while on election duty in Okene, intercepted black security vehicles and made several arrests, including those suspected to be political thugs.

In a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IGP acknowledged that three of the arrested individuals were indeed police personnel.

However, he clarified that they were found to be escorting a VIP, contrary to directives. The police boss expressed gratitude to officers who participated in the off-circle election in Kogi, Imo, and Bayelsa States.

The statement further emphasized that other officers arrested while escorting VIPs during the polls would face disciplinary measures, as such actions are against established protocols. The IGP reaffirmed the commitment to sanctioning any erring officers involved in misconduct during the election.
