The closure was announced by the Director-General of Lagos State Safety Commission, Lanre Omojola, who emphasized the government’s commitment to prioritizing the safety of residents.
During an inspection visit, it was discovered that the faulty canopy walkway had been repaired.
Despite the repairs, the Lagos State Government ordered extensive repairs on affected areas and emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety of visitors.
In response, the management of Lekki Conservation-Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF) addressed the situation, stating that the reported incident occurred on December 16, 2023, and that prompt repairs were carried out on the same day.
The Foundation highlighted its safety protocols, the expertise of its technicians, and its accident-free reputation since the official opening of the facility in 2015.
The Public Relations Officer of NCF, Oladapo Soneye, explained that the closure for maintenance was part of the foundation’s safety protocol, especially after festive seasons.
He assured the public that the LCC would reopen on February 1, 2024, and reiterated the commitment to conservation ideals and ensuring a safe and serene environment for visitors.
