Nigerian artist, Oyinlola Odemewu popularly known as  Lola Mewu has set a new World Record for the longest time spent painting, achieving this incredible feat in 72 hours.

She exceeded the previous record of 60 paintings in 60 hours, set by Roland Palmerts of France in 2013.

NEWSTODYNG recalled that on June 11, Lola shared that GWR had approved her application and given her the go-ahead to attempt to break the record.

Mewu has been making efforts to surpass the existing world record since Saturday, October 28, 2023, as she officially kicked off her paint-a-thon at around 6:30 p.m at Safe House, an upscale restaurant in Victoria Island, Lagos, and extended the duration by one day.

She persisted until Tuesday, October 31, creating exquisite and sentimental artworks that have already been sold through an auction as directed by the Guinness World Records. Many of her pieces showcased nostalgic childhood scenes.

Nigerians and friends who were happy that Nigerians are pushing forward, took to their social media handles to support the artist.

Also, Guinness world record holder and Professional dancer, Kafayat Oluwatoyin Shafau, popularly known by her stage name Kaffy, was seen in a video call with Lola Mewu, encouraging her in the attempt to set a new record for the longest painting marathon.

In her words, “I’m here with you in the spirit and I can’t wait for you to be a fellow world Guinness record holder. Just keep pushing it. What’s the current record?”, to which Lola and her team responded saying 60 hours.

“You’ve surpassed it already, just keep surpassing it because they are going to do deductions after their own check. Just keep pushing.” The dancer also encouraged her in the comment section of her posts, clearly rooting for her.

Influencers like Saskay, former big brother housemate and Adeherself were also in attendance offering support.
