…advocates creation of Faculty of Pharmacy in EKSU
…urges prioritization of indigenous language in Varsity
The former Minister of Health and Social Science, Prince Julius Adelusi-Adeluyi has said that Ekiti state has no Airport as a result of its non-functionality.
Prince Adelusi-Adeluyi stated this on Thursday, after being conferred with honorary Doctorate Degree of Doctor of Laws by the Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti (EKSU) at the grand finale of its 28th convocation ceremony.
He noted that the functionality of Ekiti Airport will pave ways for networking, opportunities and businesses which will further attract more foreign investors.
His words, “I flew from Lagos to Akure yesterday for 30 minutes. I can assure you 65% of those who flew from Lagos to Akure yesterday were coming to Ekiti state.
“Ekiti does not have an airport. We don’t have an airport and Ekiti is a very well endowed state.
“The Governor of the state, Biodun Oyebanji should prioritize the issue of the Airport because if the Airport is open, it will open up opportunities for networking, businesses and also investments from investors.
“I know he is a very humble man and a as he face this challenge, he will not stumble.” He said
On creation of Faculty of Pharmacy in the Institution, “It feels somehow when I read through the brochure and I didn’t see Faculty of Pharmacy.
“I will meet with relevant stakeholders in the University to see how the faculty will be created.”
While stating his stance on learning of indigenous language in Universities, he said “The challenge of this University is the understanding of our language. Why can’t we learn our own language?
“In India, Japan, they learn their own languages. Why can’t we learn Ekiti dialect in this Institution? We should do something about it”
Earlier on Wednesday, the newly appointed Chancellor of the University, Dr Tunji Olowolafe announced the commencement of a 1bn innovation fund to boost the operation of Agricultural technology already in place in the university.
The chancellor noted that the innovation fund is geared towards agro-tech companies founded by graduates and students of the university, stressing that Agriculture remains the pillar of Nigeria.
“Agriculture stands as the backbone of the nation and is the greatest potential for innovation and economic prosperity for us in Ekiti State and Nigeria at large.
“I am proud to announce the launch of a groundbreaking initiative, a 1bn innovation fund designed for agro-tech companies founded by graduates and students of the Ekiti State University.” He said
At the grand finale, 155 students of college of postgraduate studies were convoked comprising of 73 Ph. D. students, 81 Masters students and 1 Post Graduate Diploma student.
