A 27-year-old man, Yusuf Ali, on Thursday was arraigned before the Ekiti Magistrates’ Court on charges of alleged motorcycle theft and breach of peace.

The defendant was charged by the state police command with two counts bordering motorcycle theft and breach of peace.

The prosecutor, Akinwale Oriyomi, informed the court that Ali, along with others still at large, committed the offence on September 10 at around 10:00 a.m. in the Irona area of Ado-Ekiti.

He alleged that the defendant and his accomplices stole a red Bajaj motorcycle valued at N900,000, belonging to Olawhale Empire Multibiz Venture. Oriyomi also stated that the defendant and his accomplices acted in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace.

According to him, the offence is punishable under Sections 302 and 181(d) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021. The prosecutor requested an adjournment to allow time for him to review the case file and assemble his witnesses.

However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges. Counsel for the defendant, Sunday Balogun, requested that the court grant his client bail, assuring that he would not abscond.

Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun granted the defendant bail in the sum of N250,000 with one surety in the same amount. The case was adjourned to October 7 for further hearing.
