The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Director General, Mustapha Ahmed, has issued flood alerts to Edo, Kogi and seven other states in Nigeria.

The DG made the issuance while giving his opening remarks at the agency’s National Emergency Coordination Forum meeting held in Abuja.

This, according to him is in response to a sudden rise in flooding affecting communities and farmlands near River Benue.

The other states include Adamawa, Anambra, Bayelsa, Benue, Delta, Nasarawa and Taraba states.

He said, “Situation reports from Adamawa State confirm the upsurge of flood waters along the flood plains of River Benue,

“The situation is expected to be replicated in the downstream states of Taraba, Benue, Nasarawa, Kogi, Anambra, Edo, Delta and Bayelsa as the River Benue joins River Niger and flows to the Atlantic Ocean through the Niger Delta.”

Ahmed further stated that the situation was caused by the rapid release of waters from the Lagdo Dam in Cameroon, leading to the displacement of residents and posing a threat to crops and infrastructure.
