The Nigerian Army has approved the increment in the monthly allowance of soldiers from #1000 to #1200.
The approval of the increment was revealed in a memo signed by Emmanuel Emekah, a major-general, on behalf of the chief of army staff, Taoreed Lagbaja.
The increment that was necessitated by the hardship faced by troops following the removal of fuel subsidy was increased from N1,000 to N1,200 ($1.50).
According to the memo; “Sequel to the recent removal of fuel subsidy by the federal government of Nigeria, with its attendant rise in the prices of goods and services across the country, the COAS has graciously approved upward review of ration cash allowance of troops from N1,000 to N1,200 with effect from August 2023,”
However, the allowance is separate from monthly salaries, as soldiers have started grumbling about the poor remuneration in the military, complaining that the allowance is just too poor.
