The Nigerian Navy, through its Ship Beecroft, has successfully intercepted a fibre boat transporting 90 drums of 250 liters each of Petrol Motor Spirit (PMS), valued at approximately N15 million at the current pump price.

NEWSTODAYNG gathered that the interception was carried out by the Operation Water Guard NNS BEECROFT’s patrol team in the early hours of Saturday.

The Navy’s spokesperson, Sub-Lieutenant H. A Collins, explained in a statement on Monday that the large fibre boat was illegally transporting a total of around 22,500 liters of PMS when it was intercepted.

The arrest took place based on credible intelligence, and the vessel was found abandoned near the Ijegun community.

Commander Commodore Kolawole Oguntuga, quoting the Navy’s Commander, stated that the oil thieves abandoned the loot and fled upon sighting the NNS patrol team. He emphasized the significance of preventing the illicit acquisition of such volatile products, not only curbing economic sabotage but also averting potential fire outbreaks with severe consequences for life and property.

Commodore Oguntuga highlighted the Nigerian Navy’s unwavering commitment, under the leadership of Vice Admiral EI Ogalla, to safeguarding the nation’s petroleum resources for the benefit of Nigerians.

This proactive operation reinforces the Navy’s dedication to preventing economic sabotage and ensuring the security of vital resources.
