The former president of Nigeria, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has stated that his administration was also beclouded by issues of strike by the Association of Student Union of Universities (ASUU) before he left office.
He stated this in reaction to the educational rift between ASUU the government under the administration of Buhari.
He noted that ASUU strike has made Nigerians Students to be hopeless and helpless, which made him to call all Leaders in the Union for a closed-door meeting during his time.
In his words, “There is no administration that has no issues, during my time, ASSU also went on strike for 4 months.”
“I held meetings with different Committees but, all to no avail. Then, I called the meeting of all the leaders of ASUU for a closed door issue.”
“I was sad that how would our Students stay in houses for four months without going to school? So, I chaired the meeting, the attorney general was there, Secretary to government was also there, others too and I said this issue must be resolved tonight.”
“We finished the meeting around 5am the following day and ASUU strike was called off.” He said
NEWSTODAYNG recalled that ASUU embarked on the industrial actions on February 14, which has been subjected to extensions each time of the meetings.
