The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has said there is no going back on the deadline for the deposit of the old 200, 500 and 1,000naira notes as a means of legal tender in the country.

The CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele who apologised to Nigerians for not extending the deadline of the old currency note insisted that enough time had been given to Nigerians to swap their old naira notes for new ones.

According to him, CBN has received between N1.3 trillion to N1.5 trillion so far but expects to recover over N2 trillion after January 31 deadline.

He assured Nigerians that the ongoing sensitisation will continue after the 31st of January, 2023 deadline.
