The endorsement is sequel to the forthcoming Triennial Delegates Conference in Owerri, November 2024.

This endorsement, according to the statement, will serve as a boost to the candidacy of A+A team following the vibrancy of the Lagos Council in determination of past NUJ leaders.

The statement reads, “The Lagos Council of NUJ adopted Alhassan Yahya and Abimbola Oyetunde for the posts of President and Deputy President respectively at the forthcoming Triennial Delegates Conference scheduled for Owerri in November”.

Other resolutions at the congress are:

“The Nigeria Union of Journalists, Lagos Council members made particular reference to ‘Onje Eko’, the Lagos State food support programme which was geared at bringing down the skyrocketing prices of food items but has been unfortunately suspended by the state government.

“The Union called on the Lagos State Government to consider continuing with the well-thought-out initiative, ‘Onje Eko’ to ameliorate the suffering of Lagosians by reducing the prices of food items.

“The Union condemned the attitude of some journalists who took the National body (NUJ) to court, frowning at it as an anti-union practice.

“The Union commended the officers of the Nigeria Police in Lagos Command for curbing kidnapping and called on the Lagos State Government to commend those officers who performed creditably well in this aspect.

“The Congress called on media owners to take staff salaries and pensions seriously as many Journalists find it hard to make ends meet.

“The Union commended Lagos State House of Assembly for its intervention following a recent protest by some parents over the increase in the boarding fees of the state’s model colleges. The Congress urged government to give succour to parents in order not to discourage people from acquiring knowledge.
