The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ekiti State Council, has urged the federal government to direct the contractor handling the newly awarded Ado-Ikare road project to expedite repairs in order alleviate traffic congestion.

This was contained in a communique issued at the end of the October congress of the council and signed by its secretary, O’Seun Ogunsakin.

The council chairman, Kayode Babatuyi, noted that the road has become a death trap for commuters, as travellers find it difficult to ply the route with ease.

The council also called on the state government to address the outrageous and highly exorbitant bill by the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) and the hike in house rent by the real Estate Agents in Ado-Ekiti, saying it has worsened the living conditions of citizens.

The communique reads, “The Federal Government should as a matter of urgency mobilize the contractor handling the newly awarded Ado-Ikare road to site to ease the traffic gridlock caused by the dilapidated road which is now becoming a death trap for commuters.

“Ekiti State Government should as a matter of urgency recruit more hands to ease the workload of the staff of the State-owned media station, Broadcasting Service of Ekiti State (BSES) and procure state-of-the-art equipment in the newsroom in order to make news production and editing easier.

“The Ekiti State Government should look into the outrageous and highly exorbitant bill by the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) and the hike in house rent by the real Estate Agents in Ado-Ekiti, the State capital, as these have worsened the living conditions of citizens.

“Aggrieved members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) who are in court regarding the forthcoming National Delegate Conference should please withdraw their cases in the interest of peace and unity, and settle their grievances out of court.

“The congress felicitates the Governor of Ekiti State, Mr Biodun Oyebanji on the successes recorded by his administration in the last two years of his government; urging him not to relent in fulfilling his promises of shared promised agenda to Ekiti people”.
