…as Rector urges the media to avoid religion and ethnic bigotry in the forthcoming elections

The State Coordinator National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Ekiti State, Mrs Chikezie Mary Nenna has charged the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ekiti State Council to publicize the benefits of the NYSC Trust Funds.

Mrs. Chikezie, who was represented by the Public Relations Officer, Ekiti State, Mr. Tunde Odunsi gave the charge during a lecture delivered at the 2022 Press Week organised by the NUJ, Ekiti State Council.

The State Coordinator noted that the Trust Fund would go a long way in providing sustainable jobs for corps members, and also avail them the opportunity of sourcing for funds and finance for the skills acquired during the service year; and for other related matters.

The lecture which held at the Sanni Abacha Conference Hall, Old Governors Office, Oke Bareke, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, was tagged: “2023 Elections; Beyond Religion; Ethnicity — The Place of The Media”.

While addressing Corps members who are expected to participate as adhoc staff members during the 2023 General Elections, Mrs. Chikezie admonished them to be apolitical in all ramifications.

Similarly, the Guest Speaker, Federal Polytechnic Rector, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Engr. Dr. Dayo Hephzibah Oladebeye, noted that the success of the 2023 General Elections is everybody’s business and encouraged the media to look beyond religion and ethic bigotry and work together for the overall interest of the citizens and for a better Nigeria.

“The masses should be educated to vote based on the competence of the candidates contesting at all levels rather than being sentimental on the basis of religion and ethnicity,” he said.

Media teams were also admonished not to place undue limitations on election coverage for the sake of openness and transparency; provide safety for journalists and; ensure proper logistics before, during and after the elections.

Engr. Dr. Dayo Hephzibah Oladebeye, represented by Engr. E.O Adeosun and; a Lagos based lawyer, Barrister Ehiosu Odeh, represented by the General Manager of Fresh FM, Ekiti State, Mr. Jide Ogunluyi were also recognized and awarded by the NUJ for their excellence in contributing immensely to the growth of journalism in the state.
