The Governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Oyebanji has paid N130 million gratuities to Local Government retirees and teachers in the state.
The payment was made to 69 retirees on Monday at the government house in Ado-Ekiti in the presence of Governor Oyebanji and the Nigeria Union of Pensioneers, NUP, Chairman, Elder Jeol Akinola.
Governor Oyebanji, in his speech, said his administration would continue to prioritize the welfare of workers while in service and at their retirement.
He said, “I quite understand the pains and agony of people working for so many years and not being paid their entitlements as and when due.”
“One of the challenges every administration before me has had to contend with, is the challenge associated with the payment of gratuities to our retirees.”
“I want to assure our elderly citizens that this administration will continue to make payment of pension and gratuity a top priority”
“The beneficiaries will include retirees that are alive and the next of kin of those that are already deceased and may the good Lord rest their souls.”
Oyebanji, however, called on the people of Ekiti to support him and enable him succeed by supporting the Presidential Candidate of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and all APC candidates both at the National and State Assembly level in the February 25th elections.
In his speech, the NUP chairman, Elder Jeol Akinola, commended Governor Oyebanji, describing him as a promise keeper who has been making history since he came to office.
He advised the beneficiaries to avoid money doubling with the money, urging them to go home and eat well, take their medicine and be fine.
Some of the beneficiaries includes, Princess Esther Awoluso, Osaleye Sunday, Adegbile Emmanuel, Famoroti Ezekiel, among others.
