The Commissioner for Health and Human services in Ekiti State, Dr Oyebanji Filani has assured the leadership of Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) in the state that the state governor, Abiodun Abayomi Oyebanji would abolish pay disparities that is instigating brain drain syndrome among the Medical Professionals.

In a statement signed by the Secretary, Dr Moses Dada, the Commissioner stated this when the NMA led members of the SOC and affiliate heads paid a courtesy visit to his office.

He said the state would work out the modalities to face the challenges headlong and attain possible solutions.

Earlier, the Chairman of NMA in Ekiti State, Dr Babatunde Rosiji presented the challenges militating against healthcare delivery in the state.

He also noted that the health system in the state needs urgent action hence, a total collapse.

Other members of the personnel include Dr Titilayo Adetoyinbo, Dr Moses B. Dada, Dr Temitope Jolayemi, Dr Ola Adaramola, Dr O. Abidakun, Dr Mercy Akinwunmi, Dr L. Oluwayemi, Dr Ezra Ogundare, Dr A. F. Akinwunmi, Dr Olaniyi Olaoye, Dr Adeyemi Famous and Dr Akinleye Alo.

The statement read in part “The Chairman, Nigerian Medical Association Ekiti State led members of the SOC and affiliate heads on a courtesy visits to the Commissioner for Health and Human Services today 9th November 2022.

“After the proper introduction of the NMA members present by the Secretary, the NMA Chairman Dr. Babatunde O. Rosiji appreciated the Hon. commissioner for health for granting us the opportunity to see him and at the same time presented the challenges militating against good healthcare delivery in our dear state. He categorized the challenges into primary, secondary and tertiary health care level challenges.

“The affiliate leaders also made inputs to impress the current state of things across board on the Hon. commissioner that the health system in the State needs an emergency action right now otherwise a collapse is staring us all in the face.

“Responding to issues at hand, the Hon. commissioner for health appreciated the Chairman and the entire members of the NMA for their support even at this critical time. He however reiterated that despite brain drain being a global problem, individual States including Ekiti have to work out the modalities to face the challenges headlong. He promised to work with the data given to him to project the challenges to His excellency, Gov Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji for approval of the possible solutions. Talking about the members working with the state government and abolishing the pay disparity that is causing the problem of internal brain drain, he said he believes the present administration will do something about it soon.”
