President Bola Tinubu has suspended the minister of Humanitarian Affairs and poverty alleviation, Dr Betta Edu over alleged N585.2m scandal pending the outcome of investigations.

Tinubu made the declaration today following the allegations against the ministry which has triggered heated reactions since last week.

President Tinubu also directed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to conduct a thorough investigation into all financial transactions involving the Ministry and its associated agencies while Dr. Betta Edu was instructed to hand over responsibilities to the Permanent Secretary and fully cooperate with the investigating authorities.

A panel headed by the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance will equally conduct a comprehensive diagnostic on the financial architecture of social investment programs. The aim is to reform relevant institutions and programs, addressing institutional frailties and restoring public confidence in initiatives benefiting disadvantaged households.
