…Pastor Adeboye, Alakija, two others to receive doctorate awards
No fewer than 91 students of the Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti (EKSU), would be graduating with first class during the 28th Convocation ceremony of the 42-year-old institution slated for April 3 and 4, 2024.
This was revealed at a press conference in Ado-Ekiti on Monday by the Vice Chancellor of the Institution, Professor Edward Olanipekun, ahead of the graduation ceremony.
Giving the breakdown, Olanipekun said, out of the 10,894 graduating students, 91 made first class, 3262 students bagged second class upper division, 6411 have second class lower division, while 747 clinched third class and 4 students with pass.
The graduating students include, 224 diploma students, 4400 first degree students, 5359 DCEP students and 756 DPTP students.
Others are 155 students of college of postgraduate studies comprising of 73 Ph. D. students, 81 Masters students and 1 Post Graduate Diploma student.
The Institution will also confer award of Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) on the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, for his immense contributions to the nation.
Other recipients are, the richest woman in Nigeria, Princess Folorunso Alakija (Doctor of Business Administration), former governor of Ekiti state, Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo (Doctor of Laws), and former Minster of Health, Prince Julius Adeluyi (Doctor of Laws).
Professor Olanipekun added that a total number of 16 academic Programmes have been approved by the National Universities Commission (NUC) to commence with effect from 2023/24 academic session.
According to him, they include: “B.Sc. Medical Laboratory Science, B.Sc. Medical Biochemistry, B.Sc. Mass Communication, B.Ed. Health Education, B.Sc. Peace and Conflict Resolution, B.Sc. Social Work, B.Sc. Intelligence and Security Studies, B.Sc. International Relations, B.Sc. International Relations and B.Sc. Public Administration.
“Others are: Ph. D. Obstetrics and Gynecology, Ph. D. Paediatrics and Child Health, Ph. D. Medicine, Ph. D. Surgery and Ph. D. Public Health.”
Speaking on the highlights of the graduation ceremony, Professor Olanipekun disclosed that the former vice chancellor of University of Ibadan, Professor Idowu Olayinka will deliver the convocation lecture titled “The Future of Nigerian University System” on April 2.
Others are the investiture of the new chancellor, award of sub-degree and first degree and presents of prizes on April 3 while the grand finale of the ceremony comes up on Thursday, 4th April, 2024.
