The Philippine National Police has taken action against six Chinese nationals who are suspected to be involved in the murder of a Nigerian medical student, Chibuikem Emmanuel, within the country.
NEWSTODAYNG gathered that Chibuikem’s untimely demise unfolded in a series of events that began with a dispute over a commission owed to his Filipino girlfriend.
The incident which occurred on Orlacson Street in Mandaue City, Philippines, sending shockwaves through the local community, was said to have generated from an argument that escalated on October 19, leading to a heated confrontation involving Chibuikem, his girlfriend, and the head of the company, a Chinese woman.
Amidst this tension, two vehicles arrived at the scene and claimed to be taking Chibuikem to the police station for causing a disturbance.
However, this turned out to be a sinister ruse, as it was later revealed that he was not taken to the police station at all.
Instead, Chibuikem was found with his hands tied and visible signs of abuse on his face after being dropped off in front of the police station by a bus.
The incident has raised questions about security and justice for foreign nationals residing in the Philippines.
Tragically, the young medical student was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital.
A friend of the deceased described the ordeal as a case of alleged torture, wherein Chibuikem had been bound, gagged, and brutally beaten by his captors.
To ensure that the suspects face justice, the Philippine National Police swiftly filed murder cases against the six Chinese individuals allegedly involved in Chibuikem’s death.
Also, it was gathered that authorities have taken proactive measures by sharing the suspects’ photos and information with airports to prevent their escape.
