The Nigeria Police Force has shed light on its position regarding the arrest of crossdressers in the country, citing the complexity of the issue and the absence of specific laws addressing cross-dressing as reasons for their inability to take action.
NEWSTODAYNG gathered that, the police spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, emphasized that cross-dressing is not currently recognized as a punishable offense under Nigerian law.
He acknowledged the challenges of prosecuting individuals for cross-dressing without concrete evidence and reiterated the importance of credible evidence in legal proceedings.
Adejobi further explained that while some crossdressers may face allegations of being affiliated with the LGBTQ community, there is a lack of specific evidence to substantiate such claims, making it difficult to pursue legal action against them.
He stated, “There are some cases that are always very difficult to prove…you can’t have someone you want to prosecute without having credible evidence against them.”
Adejobi’s remarks come amid public scrutiny of crossdresser Bobrisky, who recently received the award for best-dressed female at a movie premiere.
