A legal practitioner, Sola Adeyegbe has suggested that all petitions arising from 2023 presidential election should be settled and concluded before the inauguration of the President-elect on May 29.

Adeyegbe, who made this call while featuring on a programme tagged, “Post-election legal matters” hosted by Arise TV, quoted Section 132(7 & 8) of the Electoral Act, 2022, saying all petitions should be settled within 180 days from the day the petition is filed.

According to him, “All petitions should be settled before the inauguration especially when it comes to Presidency because the power of incumbency can never be underrated.

“The law only gives the upper limit, and we should get to the point in Nigeria where we should do what is right.

“The law does not guarantee compliance, rather human beings do. If you are not willing to follow rules, rather than circumvent it, there is an issue. We have a great electoral law in Nigeria.” He said.
