The Ekiti State Commissioner for Infrastructure and Public Utilities, Prof Mobolaji Aluko has assured Ekiti people of access to improved and sustainable water supply, sanitation and hygiene.
Prof. Aluko gave the assurance in Ado-Ekiti while receiving a Federal Program Implementation Unit team on a technical support mission to the State.
Professor Aluko said the State Government was already tackling the issue of erratic supply of electricity to the State which is a major factor in ensuring satisfactory provision of water.
He noted that electricity power supply is a key determinant of the
success or failure of efforts to provide potable water to the people.
According to him, Sanitation and Hygiene can only be achieved when
people have access to Water supply, adding that Government would therefore leave no stone unturned towards achieving the target objectives of SURWASH Program.
In his remarks, the National Program Coordinator, Engineer Abudulhmed Gwaram explained that the purpose of their visit was to address the critical risks and issues that may hinder efficiency and performance towards achieving the year 2 target.
He advised implementing agencies to seek assistance from the Federal
Program Implementation Unit (FPIU) and State Program Implementation Unit (SPIU) whenever the need arises.
He emphasized the importance attached to end result, number of
beneficiaries and the procedures that the Independent Verification
Agency would follow for clearing and disbursement, stressing the need for Implementing Agencies to do proper documentation of every activity carried out under the program.
