Tottenham Hotspurs’ defender, Iyenoma Destiny Udogie has been racially abused on social media following a post on his Instagram page celebrating the club’s win against Liverpool.

The 20-year old Italian footballer, who plays as a left-back for Premier League club Tottenham Hotspurs received racist comments on Instagram following the 2-1 win against Liverpool on Saturday.

NEWSTODAYNG gathered that following the apology of the referee organization, PGMOL, for disallowing Luis Diaz’s first-half strike due to offside, Liverpool was not awarded a deserved goal by the VAR.

Udogie after his victory took to his Instagram page to post a picture with the caption, “Celebrating the victory, Romans 8:31” an image that generated alot of negative comments.

Tottenham Hotspur expressed their strong disapproval of the messages towards Udogie and promised to take action with the Premier League against those responsible.

“We are disgusted at the racist messages directed towards Destiny Udogie on social media following Saturday’s game against Liverpool.

“We will work with the Premier League and, where possible, take action against any individual we are able to identify. We stand with you Destiny.”

In response to Tottenham’s post, The Premier League also issued a statement on their page saying,

“Racism or any form of discrimination will not be tolerated by the Premier League.

“We will continue to work alongside clubs to ensure cases are reported and investigated and offenders face severe consequences.”
