The President of Rwanda, Paul Kagame has approved the immediate retirement of major military personnel in the country.
This was revealed in a press release via the X, formerly known as Twitter by the Rwanda Defense Force (RDF).
This announcement came amid recent military coups in Niger Republic and Gabon.
Kagame had approved the retirement of 12 Generals, 83 Senior Officers, 6 Junior Officers, 86 senior non-commissioned officers(NCO), 678 soldiers were retired after their contract ended and160 others were discharged on medical grounds.
The 65-year-old President who has been in power since 2000 and is one of Africa’s longest-serving Presidents approved the appointment of new Officers.
In 2015, Rwanda’s constitution was changed to allow Kagame remain as president until 2034.
In a similar vein, President of Cameroon, Paul Biya has also made major changes to the country’s ministry of defence by reshuffling the delegate to the presidency in charge of defence, air force staff, navy, and the police.
The 90year old came into power in 1982 and had since ruled as the country’s President.
