In a recent interview with Apple Music Africa Now Radio, Nigerian artist Seyi Vibez delved into his journey from the breakout success of ‘Chance’ in 2022 to a remarkably productive 2023, marked by the release of two EPs and two albums.
The Street music sensation opened up about his motivation, musical influences, and his newly launched label, Vibez INC.
Vibez, known for his distinctive fusion of traditional genres with mainstream elements, attributed his extensive musical output to his preference for expressing himself through music rather than conversation. “I record always because that’s the only way I can communicate with people. I have a lot more songs than the ones I’ve dropped,” he shared.
The artist, who has achieved considerable commercial success at the young age of 23, credited his accomplishments to divine intervention and the enduring influence of his late mother. Despite perceptions of being older than his age, Seyi Vibez remains dedicated to his craft, drawing inspiration from his mother’s memory.
Vibez, with his music imprint Vibez INC, introduced rising talent TMI Vibez, expressing confidence in his potential to become one of Africa’s top artists. Reflecting on TMI’s success, he stated, “He’ll be one of the best African artists ever to come up this year. Man, I can’t wait for him to blow more.”
Seyi Vibez’s distinctive use of orchestra and choral vocals in his music traces back to the influence of Nigerian music legends, Wasiu Ayinde and Fela Kuti, whose works he encountered during his formative years. Inspired by their backing choirs, Vibez aims to incorporate this element both in his live performances and studio recordings.
The interview concluded with Vibez’s recent release of the ‘NAHAMciaga’ EP and the music video for ‘Different Pattern,’ setting the stage for what promises to be another musically vibrant year from the talented artist.
