The Chief Imam of Yorubaland, Sheik Abdulraheem Aduanigba has said the sharia arbitration panel can not work in Yoruba land as a result of the existing traditional beliefs.

Speaking with journalists, Chief Imam said sharia law would employ a diverse operation that would further trigger heated relationship among citizenry.

His words, “Sheria can’t work on Yoruba land. If they say Yoruba, we only have three religions, the first one is the tradition, before christianity came then Islam followed it.

“Here in Yoruba land, we have 27m Christian population, 23m Muslim population and 10m traditionalists.

“Among the 972 traditional rulers in Yoruba land, if we say we should bring in sheria law, it will contradict what we have in our own policy.

“In southwest, we know that some people are celebrating masquerade festival, Christmas and Ramadan, Ileya.

“If another set of people decide to use Sheria in Yoruba land, it means we will be fighting a woman for not covering her head, it will be going against beer parlours and it can’t work because those people working in breweries in Lagos, they are using the money gotten in that place to give people in north who said they don’t want sharia”.
