In a remarkable display of bravery, Nigerian Army (NA) soldiers from the 81 Division NA have successfully prevented a suicide attempt by one Francesca Spark.

It was gathered the incident which happened in the early hours of Monday, took place at the Lagos Lagoon near the 81 Division Officers’ Mess in Marina, Lagos.

Spark’s life hung in the balance as she plunged into the Lagos Lagoon, but the troops of the 65 Battalion NA, who happened to be deployed in the area, spotted her perilous situation.

Using their military riverine skills and resourcefulness, the soldiers swiftly initiated a rescue operation.

After a daring rescue effort, Spark was brought to safety and given essential first aid treatment by the battalion’s medical team.

Following her stabilization, the soldiers contacted her family, ultimately reuniting her with her husband, Spark Oghene Ovie, who resides in Awoyaya, Lagos.

Major General Muhammed Takuti Usman, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 81 Division NA, commended the soldiers for their vigilance, courage, and resourcefulness in averting a tragic outcome.

He hailed their ability to apply their training in disaster management effectively during this critical situation.

The GOC emphasized that such operations are a testament to the military’s readiness to respond to emergencies and natural disasters, even when they fall outside the scope of traditional warfare.

Major General Usman reiterated the NA’s commitment to safeguarding residents and their properties, especially during unforeseen crises.
