In a recent address at the police force headquarters in Abuja, Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun called on Nigerians to resist giving away their money or property under police intimidation.

He said this during a meeting with key officers responsible for the police’s internal control mechanisms, where he emphasized his commitment to bridging the trust gap between the police force and the public.

Egbetokun acknowledged that some officers have deviated from the expected conduct, breaching the trust placed in them by society.

He stressed the need for the prompt dispensation of justice against erring officers and the implementation of measures to curb unprofessional behavior.

Further speaking, he urged citizens to stand firm against extortion and other vices, and to report any infractions committed by police officers to the appropriate authorities. He also called on senior officers to recommend personnel who demonstrate courage, integrity, and humanity for recognition.

“Our officers are supposed to uphold the value of integrity, yet some have frequently failed to meet these high moral expectations.

“While we continue to implement internal measures to address these issues, we need the public to join us in this effort. Never succumb to intimidation or part with your hard-earned money or properties unjustly,” he said.
