The much anticipated rain in Nigeria has left tales of pain and sorrow on the lips of some Indigenes of Ekiti state on Tuesday after a downpour unroofed their houses.

The rain, which started around 7pm and lasted for two hours, came with a violent pressure that left scars in some houses.

Vanguard reports that the rainstorm totally unroofed a house in Ekute area of Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti state capital and left others in dilapidated condition.

Speaking with a resident, Ponmile Ibiteye attested to the fact that the house has been abandoned for two years by the owner with the hope to renovate it sooner this year.

His words, “This house has been abandoned like a year or two years now before the rainstorm lifted the whole roof last night.

“I met the owner last week and he told me that he will renovate it in June but now that the rain has unroofed everything, he have to look for close to a million naira to roof it again before even renovating it because a bundle of a roofing sheet is now over #90,000.”

Recounting his ordeal, Olumide Alabi said he was supposed to be home at the time the rainfall but could not leave his office as a result of the rain-wind.

“I was supposed to be home at the time of the downpour but I could not come home because of the rain.

“It was when I got home I discovered that my house was blew by the rain and all the asbestos in my room had fallen on my bed.

“I can’t go to work now, I have to look for a way to fix it. Had it been I was home last night , maybe that would have been the end because that was the time I normally sleep.” He said

Another victim, Bunmi Oloore explained how she also escaped potential death, saying “Thank God I was not inside the shop when the rain started. I was not supposed to go home at that time but my mind just told me to close the shop by 6 and leave for house.

“It was this morning that I came back here then I saw that half of the roof is down with asbestos scattered everywhere.”
