In a significant move to strengthen the regulatory framework in Nigeria’s upstream petroleum sector, President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of three new Executive Commissioners to serve in the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).

NEWSTODAYNG gathered that the appointment came in the early hours of Wednesday.

This reshuffling and replacement of Executive Commissioners is aimed at establishing a robust regulatory framework and culture within the upstream petroleum sector.

Additionally, a current Executive Commissioner has been redeployed to another role, pending their confirmation by the Nigerian Senate.

The newly appointed Executive Commissioners and their respective portfolios are as follows:

Bashir Indabawa – Representing the North West, will serve as the Executive Commissioner for Exploration and Acreage Management.

Dr. Kelechi Ofoegbu – Representing the South East, has been redeployed as the Executive Commissioner for Corporate Services & Administration.

Enorense Amadasu – Representing the South South, will take on the role of Executive Commissioner for Development & Production.

Babajide Fasina – Representing the South West, has been appointed as the Executive Commissioner for Economic Regulation & Strategic Planning.

President Tinubu’s decision is guided by a thorough assessment of factors affecting the industry, with a clear objective to create a regulatory environment that discourages errant behaviour while encouraging diligence and adherence to rules-based business practices across the sector.
