President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to ensuring that every child has access to education, emphasizing the importance of gender equity in achieving this goal.

His remarks came during the launch of the “WeAreEqual” campaign by the Organisation of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD) Nigeria, hosted by Senator Oluremi Tinubu.

Addressing an esteemed audience including First Ladies from across Africa, government officials, and members of the diplomatic corps, Tinubu underscored the pivotal role of education in promoting gender equality and providing equal opportunities for all.

He extended an open invitation to African First Ladies, encouraging them to collaborate in efforts to ensure universal access to education.

The President commended the initiatives undertaken by OAFLAD members to empower women and girls, applauding their commitment to narrowing the gender gap in opportunities and appointments across the continent.

Highlighting the significance of inclusive educational opportunities, particularly for the girl child, President Tinubu praised the reintroduction of the alternative high school for girls in Nigeria by the First Lady. This program aims to give young girls a second chance to pursue education and contribute to national development.

Tinubu emphasized education as a catalyst for progress and prosperity, calling for concerted efforts to eliminate structural barriers hindering women’s advancement. He stressed the need for policies promoting women’s rights, education, and economic empowerment.

In her remarks, Oluremi Tinubu explained that the #WeAreEqual campaign is a year-long, continent-wide initiative aimed at advancing gender equity and bridging the gender gap. She outlined the campaign’s focus on health, gender-based violence, education, and economic empowerment, rallying stakeholders to take action on these critical issues.

President Tinubu pledged to promote the #WeAreEqual campaign in Nigeria through educational initiatives, while also addressing other pillars such as health and economic empowerment under the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI).
