President Bola Tinubu has called on state governors to prioritize the payment of wage awards to workers, emphasizing that it would bring significant relief to Nigerians across the country.
Speaking at the inauguration of Governor Umaru Bago’s agricultural program in Minna, the Niger State capital, Tinubu stressed the importance of collaboration between state governments and the Federal Government to alleviate economic reform pains.
NEWSTODAYNG gathered that, while commending the Federal Government’s initiative to pay a monthly wage award of N35,000 to its workers for six months following the withdrawal of petrol subsidy, President Tinubu highlighted the need for states to follow suit.
He urged all states to start paying the wage award, emphasizing that it would alleviate the financial burden on the public.
He further addressed other key initiatives of his administration, including the student loan program set to commence soon and unemployment benefits for graduates, assuring Nigerians that the government is working to address hunger and implement social security programs for the elderly and vulnerable.
In addition to addressing economic reforms, President Tinubu emphasized the importance of tackling violent attacks and cattle rustling. He pledged to introduce comprehensive programs to address these challenges, including initiatives to reorient herders and provide support for cattle rearing.
Governor Bago, in his remarks, highlighted his administration’s commitment to achieving growth and prosperity for the people of Niger State and Nigeria. He outlined various initiatives aimed at revitalizing infrastructure and promoting agricultural development in the state, including the establishment of a special agro-processing free zone.
Governor Bago pledged Niger State’s support for President Tinubu’s food security agenda, emphasizing the state’s potential to become a leading sub-national food exporter in Nigeria.
Governor Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State emphasized the importance of collaboration among states to enhance food security in the country.
He highlighted the partnership between Lagos and other states in building the largest food warehouse to store agricultural produce, contributing to the nation’s self-sufficiency in food production.
