A solemn atmosphere enveloped Evwreni community in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State as tragedy struck on Monday, claiming the life of an employee of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC).

The deceased, simply identified as Kingsley, was electrocuted while carrying out repairs on a 33KVA line.

According to reports, Kingsley was in the process of reconnecting a damaged cable on the high-tension line responsible for transmitting electricity to Uwheru, Patani, Bomadi, and other communities in the state.

The unfortunate incident occurred when electricity was suddenly restored to the high-tension pole where Kingsley was working, resulting in his untimely death.

A source from Evwreni who craved anonymity, expressed shock and sorrow over the loss, describing Kingsley as a longstanding member of the community and a dedicated BEDC staff member.

When contacted, BEDC’s Public Relations Officer, Evelyn Gbiwen, claimed to be on leave and had not yet been briefed about the incident.
