Tyla Laura Seethal, popular known as Tyla, hailing from South Africa, has clinched the 2024 Grammy Awards, securing the coveted title of Best African Music Performance for her captivating song “Water.”

This victory marks a historic moment as the category makes its debut at the Grammys this year.

Competing against a formidable lineup, including prominent African artists like Davido, Burna Boy, Ayra Starr, and Asake, Tyla’s win underscores her outstanding contribution to the music scene.

The inaugural Best African Music Performance category brought diverse talents together, showcasing the richness of the continent’s musical landscape.

The other nominees in the category included Asake and Olamide with “Amapiano,” Ayra Starr with “Rush,” Burna Boy with “City Boys,” and Davido featuring Musa Keys with “Unavailable.”

The Best African Music Performance category is part of the Grammy Awards’ expansion, introducing three new categories this year, including Best Alternative Jazz Album and Best Pop Dance Recording.
