A member of the United Kingdom Parliament, Carol Monaghan has kicked against the new policy of Home Secretary, Suella Braverman, barring Nigerians and other international students from bringing their families while on Masters program.
The lawmaker, who spoke extensively on the contribution of international students to the UK economy, said the Home Secretary’s new policy is misjudged.
The lawmaker also pointed out that the international students contribute positively to the UK economy with their career in all sectors in the country.
The Scottish Member of Parliament added that international students are not the cause of immigration issues in the country but have only been caught in the crossfire.
Speaking on bringing their relatives over, she stated that the international students do so because they want to go through the schooling experience with them.
In her words, “International students make an invaluable contribution to the economy.
“The reality is that many students who come into the UK look beyond their studies and want their families to be part of their experience.
“Withholding overseas students from bringing their families, many will opt to go elsewhere and any drop in international students numbers will cause further harm to universities that are already facing financial difficulties.” She said.
