The Chairman, House Committee on Housing and Habitat in the Federal House of Representative, Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin has expressed regret over the removal of subsidy declared by President Bola Tinubu.
He noted that Nigerians do not envisage the danger associated with the declaration, saying it was meant to end the hardship mitigating against the citizens.
Jibrin stated this during a live program on Channels TV.
His words, “A lot of us believed that subsidy removal would solve the problems with minimal pain to the people but we never actually thought the hardship would be this drastic.
“In hindsight, I would have rather dealt decisively and cleaned up the subsidy regime because subsidy itself isn’t bad, what was bad was that it was thoroughly abused.
“But let’s be real, 99% of the people who are trying to make headlines out of the subsidy issue believed in its removal”.
