The Vice Chancellor of Ekiti State University (EKSU), Professor Edward Olanipekun, said the institution has recently promoted 70 academic staff to the rank of professors and 60 as readers.

Professor Olanipekun stated this on Wednesday at a press conference held in Ado-Ekiti.

The VC, who said the promotions have been approved by the council, added that the development has increased the numbers of professors in the Faculty of Law from two to seven.

Olanipekun also stated that the institution is in the process of commencing new programs such as pharmacy and dental surgery.

His words were, “We promoted 70 academic staff to the rank of professor and they cut across all departments and faculties. We equally promote 60 to the position of reader, which is equivalent to Associate Professor. The council has approved all the promotions. What can interest you, gentlemen, is that in the Faculty of Law, we now have seven professors from two.

“We are in the process of commencing new programs at the university, and one of such programs is a Doctor of Pharmacy. We are expecting the results of the visitation panels, both from NUC and the professional regulatory agency.

“We are still expecting their reports. We are optimistic that the report will be positive, and if the outcome is positive, that means we will be admitting into the programs, i.e., Dr. of Pharmacy and Bachelor of Dental Surgery.”.

Olanipekun added that the examination slated for August 12th has been postponed to August 19th as a result of unforeseen circumstances that disrupt the academic calendar.

“Examination will now commence on August 19th, as against the earlier scheduled date of August 12th. That decision was taken in view of unforeseen circumstances that affected the calendar.

“The one-week extension will allow the students to have adequate time to prepare for their exams so that they can do well.”
