A woman(name withheld) has accused Manchester City defender, Benjamin Mendy of rape after allegedly searched his net worth on the internet.

The 28-year-old footballer is accused of eight counts of rape, one count of sexual assault and one count of attempted rape, which he denied all charges.

Chester Crown Court heard Mendy raped one of the alleged victims while at his home in Cheshire in July last year.

The woman said in evidence she came up with excuses as to why she could not have sex with him but said it was like “arguing with a brick wall”.

Mendy’s barrister, Eleanor Laws QC claimed the woman “searched Mendy’s net worth” before her recorded police interview in February of this year.

Ms Laws said: “Why would you be searching for Mr Mendy’s net worth before making your statement?”

The woman replied: “What date did I do that?”

Ms Laws continued: “Why would you be interested in how much money he earns or what he was worth on the 17 January this year?”

The alleged victim said: “I wasn’t particularly interested in that but he was in the headlines and stuff and I was being asked about him. Obviously I’m going to Google what’s happening and about him.”

The woman was then asked if she had an “eye” to apply for compensation “at some point”. She replied: “No and I haven’t done.” The court heard the alleged offences took place at Mendy’s “isolated” home, The Spinney, in Mottram St Andrew in rural Cheshire.

Also on trial is Mendy’s friend and ‘fixer’ Louis Saha Matturie, 41, who allegedly helped find young women for Mendy and was present at parties where women claim they were raped.

Saha, of Eccles, denies eight counts of rape and four counts of sexual assault against seven different women – two of whom Mendy is also accused of raping.

Meanwhile, the trial continues.
