In a new twist to the political crisis in Rivers, the state government has demolished the House of Assembly in Rivers State.

The demolition of the House of Assembly building located along Moscow Road, Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, is to pave way for the reconstruction.

NEWSTODAYNG gathered that more than ten bulldozers and other earth moving equipment belonging to the State Government descended on the Assembly Complex as early as 5.00 a.m. on Wednesday morning and took position around the charred remains of the complex.

The demolition of the State House of Assembly commenced at about 7:30am and is still ongoing as at the time of filing this report.

The reconstruction follows the burning down of the Assembly Complex in the wake of the factionalisation of the State House of Assembly between supporters of Governor Simi Fubara and his predecessor.

The Rivers state government has, following the fire incident undertaken to reconstruct the House of Assembly complex following the demolition.

It was gathered that the demolition and reconstruction is bound to elicit political reactions as another dimension to the faceoff between the pro-Wike legislators and the legislators aligned to Governor Fubara in the State House of Assembly.
