Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State has inducted the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Governing Board in the state to serve as a smooth link between the Government and the scheme.

The inauguration ceremony held at the Commissioner’s office, in the State Secretariat on Thursday where the governor, represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development Ekiti State, Hon. Adedayo Gold charged the newly inaugurated board members to channel their energy into alleviating poverty among the youths in Ekiti State.

Adesola implored the board to create an enabling environment for youths in Ekiti state to tap knowledge from corps members deployed to the state, especially in the area of acquiring skills and creating wealth.

The Commissioner, who acknowledged the positive effect of corps members in the educational development of the state noted that 70% of the population of the indigenes of Ekiti are youths thereby charging the committee members to work towards eradicating unemployment in the society.

Similarly ,The State Coordinator, Alh. Riko Abdullahi Shuaibu on behalf of the Director General of the scheme appreciated the state Governor for inaugurating the NYSC Board in the state.



He stated that the initiative will go a long way in ensuring that government responsibilities towards NYSC are well spelt out.

Alh. Riko also stated some of the challenges facing the scheme in the state to include lack of a multi-purpose Hall at the state’s permanent orientation camp, lack of a permanent office secretariat, and the absence of state allowances for corps members, among others.

He pleaded with the newly inducted members to ensure that all challenges facing the scheme in the state are adequately taken care of.

Also, the permanent secretary Ministry of Youths Development, Barr. Bamidele Arowosola in his address stated the responsibilities of the board and the formation of the board to include the Honorable Commissioner for Youth as the Chairman, and the NYSC State Coordinator as the secretary.

In attendance at the inaugural meeting were also the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dele Ogunsemoyin, the representative of the Nigerian Army, Major Hamza Zakari Ahmed, the Permanent secretary of the Ministry of Education, Dr. Olomojobi, the representative of the Commissioner for Agriculture and Local Government Service Commission respectively.
